Environmentally Friendly

At Aqua-Clear Pools & Spas, we want to do our part to be good stewards of our environment while also helping you save money.  As energy efficient and eco-friendly products have become more readily available and beneficial, we have taken several steps to offer these to our customers.  Use of these products will assist in keeping your pool clean and inviting, without causing undue harm to the environment.  Additionally, many can also contribute to financial payback, sometimes in as little as one swimming season.

Hot Spring Spas

Hot Spring spas feature high-density foam insulation, energy-efficient pumps, & LED lighting.  Hot Spring Spas offers hot tubs that are highly energy-efficient. Third-party testing confirms that Hot Spring spas have extremely low documented operating costs. Each Hot Spring spa has EarthSmart features, including multiple layers of high-density foam that minimize heat loss. The pumps and heater deliver maximum performance using minimum energy. The SilentFlo 5000 circulation pump uses less energy to operate than a 40-watt light bulb. Every Hot Spring spa comes with a custom-fit cover that has a high R-value and a dense foam core, forming a tight seal to maximize heat retention.  Recently, Hot Spring earned an ENVY Award for outstanding efforts in environmentally-friendly hot tub design by the Germany-based INDESIGN Institute for Innovative Design.  Hot Spring is continually searching for ways to conserve resources, reuse, and recycle, and produces its own power through onsite generators. In the manufacturing process, excess spa shell and siding material is recycled, along with all cardboard. Hot Spring is making green initiatives part of its long-term corporate strategy.

Pool Pumps

There are a variety of pump options available to consumers, but we recommend the Pentair IntelliFlo variable-speed pump.  Use of this pump significantly reduces emissions, lowers energy consumption, and saves time, money, & utilities expenses over the use of traditional pumps.  A breakthrough in energy-efficiency and service life, the IntelliFlo pump allows programming for four different speeds for different pool, spa, or water features applications. By setting the minimum speed required for a task, the pump works less and uses less energy, while still keeping your pool in pristine condition. Pump speeds are easily adjusted with the push of an up or down arrow button.  IntelliFlo pumps have permanent magnet motors (used in hybrid cars) and provide a typical energy savings of 30%-90%.  This pump filters at a lower speed, enabling more efficient filtration, less wear and tear on your equipment, and much lower operational costs.  IntelliFlo pumps are better for the environment, save you money, and are the quietest pumps on the market.

Pool Filters

Pentair’s System:3 Modular Media Filters handle 2-3 times more dirt than other filters to deliver maintenance-free performance for up to a full season. Featuring perfectly balanced flow and an integral manifold design, these filters are engineered to deliver the ultimate in labor savings. Water flows very efficiently through this filter, allowing the use of lower pump speeds to minimize energy use. Cleaning cartridge filters such as this one involve simply rinsing them off instead of backwashing, allowing you to significantly reduce water consumption.  Because of this method of cleaning, you'll notice reduced chemical use since treated water is retained in your pool.  This filter is low maintenance – its shallow pleats means greater dirt holding capabilities, resulting in longer filter cycles and less cleaning.  Unlike some filters, there is no danger of inhalation of hazardous chemicals (D.E. filters) that can lead to serious lung damage, and there won't be any loose particles cycling back into your pool through the returns (as is commonly associated with sand filters).  Cartridge filters make sense for the environment and for your pocketbook.

Pool Lights

We offer IntelliBrite LED lights by Pentair, which need only 37 watts to create the same light output as an incandescent or halogen light using 161 watts. LED automated color-changing pool and spa lights are the most energy-efficient pool and spa lighting option available. Plus, they can last 30,000 hours or more, minimizing replacement cost and disposal.  A superior reflector design assures more light is directed toward the pool bottom to further increase intensity and color effects, while minimizing glare.  Also, the superior lens geometry design distributes light in an optimum way so that light intensity and color are distributed more uniformly throughout your pool than regular pool lights.

Pool Covers

Using a pool cover when the pool is not in use will help keep it in pristine condition, and will help the environment. A pool cover will help by preventing water evaporation and heat loss, while helping keep dirt and leaves from entering the pool.  We have a wide variety of cover options, ranging from tarp-style to automatic safety covers, with plenty of options in between.

Pool Heaters

Max-E-Therm pool heaters offer reduced energy use and low nitrogen oxides emissions. ThermalFlo heat pumps use R410A, an environmentally-safe and non-ozone depleting refrigerant. They also use up to 80 percent less energy than gas-fired heaters.  Many older pool heaters contribute to poor air quality by emitting Nitrogen Oxides (NOx).  NOx is one of the main ingredients involved in the formation of ground-level ozone (smog).  NOx can trigger serious respiratory problems, as well as contributing to acid rain.  Max-E-Therm high performance heaters offer best-in-class energy efficiency, and they are certified for low NOx emissions, making them eco-friendly favorites.

Mineral Sanitizers

Working with the pool filtration system, Nature2 mineral sanitizers use elemental minerals, combined with a small amount of chlorine, to destroy bacteria, inhibit algae, and eliminate contaminants. With three times more active minerals and efficient Controlled Release Technology (CRT), Nature2 works continuously for months, providing consistent, effective sanitizing.  Minerals boost water clarity, provide natural water conditioning, and lower chlorine requirements to the least amount needed to burn off contaminants. The pH balance is easier to maintain, and red-eye, dry skin, and chemical odors are eliminated.  There is also a unit for spas, and when used with monopersulfate salts (MPS) as the oxidizer, eliminates the need for chlorine or bromine altogether.

Pool Salt Systems

With a salt-based chlorine generator, you are still able to keep your pool sanitized properly, but without the need to handle as many potentially hazardous chemicals.  Salt is a natural substance normally found in the earth and our bodies, and is environmentally and ecologically friendly.  Salt is very economical and reduces the costs associated with maintaining the health of your pool water.  Salt systems vary in terms of the bells and whistles offered, but many include automatic timers, and each one that we offer allows you to set the amount of sanitation needed for your pool.  If you prefer enjoying your pool more than maintaining it, a salt system may be for you. You'll never need to lug chlorine buckets in your car or worry about storing them at your home again. No more odors from chlorine products, and because you no longer have to worry about the consequences of constant over and under chlorination, you drastically reduce the need to purchase and add other balancing and maintenance chemicals. With a salt system, you will no longer experience the discomfort of harsh chemical reactions like red eyes, green hair, or itchy skin, and swimsuits won’t fade or rot. Your pool water will retain a constant low-level pH-balance that not only nourishes your water, but also makes it soft and silky to the touch.  Salt systems have a lower cost of maintenance, and are healthier for you!
